Edging Choices For Your Dallas Garden

There are a number of benefits to landscape edging; it gives your lawn and garden beds a clean and manicured look, can add curb appeal and is a low cost value add to your home, saves trimming time and is a root barrier between lawn grasses and flower beds.

We often counsel our clients on the best types of edging for their functional needs, as well as design aesthetic. A perennial favorite is a raised bed with a crisp trenched edge, essentially no edging. It blends in well with any landscape design and still provides the maintenance benefits listed above.

Trenched Edge

If a trench edge doesn't provide enough of visual barrier for you, we offer multiple options to best suit the location, plantings, style of your home and the type of landscape design.

Black metal edging is available in medium or thick grade steel and is a more contemporary version of the standard green edging which is also available in brown.

BenderBoard is a thick edging that is used when the tan color is desired or there is a worry about the steel edging cutting a child or dog’s foot. We'll be writing about dog-safe landscaping soon, so watch this space!

A river rock edge looks great in an English Garden design. We take care to ensure that the look and scale of the stone works with your home's architecture. Stones are available in white, soft multi color, dark grey and solid tan. You can see examples of them in this recent post we wrote about using stone in your landscape design.

Chop stone is a classic edging choice and is well suited for so many Dallas home designs; most frequently we install tan but it's also available in gray and white.

Moss covered boulders have so much visual interest and we often use them in conjunction with chop stone or simply as stand alone edging, it's always a great look and works well for raised beds or areas prone to erosion.

Dry-stacked, thin flagstone provides a great textured look and is available in tan, grey, and white-tan mixed colors.

Geo steel bed edging is a contemporary alternative to the more traditional options listed above. It looks great when combined with geo steel pots and containers and adds a modern touch to xeriscape designs. It can be curved or installed with 90 degree angles, the possibilities are endless. It's gray when installed and turns to a beautiful, organic rust color over time.
