Planting and Caring for Hydrangeas in North Texas

The best time to plant hydrangeas in Dallas is from spring through late fall, although winter planting can also be successful.

To give your hydrangeas the best start:

Choose a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade. They also perform well in bright, partial shade throughout the day.
Plant in rich, well-draining soil amended with compost and azalea planting mix.
Apply mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, but keep it away from the stems to prevent rot.
